Ushering a new year on innovations, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) will fund 207 research projects in 2024. “This year, we are allotting P800 million into these research projects to help in advancing innovation in the Philippines,” DOST-PCIEERD Executive Director Enrico Paringit said. These projects mainly focused on DOST’s four pillars, human well-being, wealth creation, wealth protection and sustainability. Among DOST's 9 priority areas, most of the budget will be allotted to STI Governance with P570 Million focusing on maximizing the benefits of innovation in both urban and rural areas through the Smart Challenge PH and the development of entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem. DOST – PCIEERD will also invest more in industrial solutions and competitiveness development such as ICT Innovations and Artificial Intelligence and in accelerating the manufacturing sectors with P61 Million.

Naawan, Misamis Oriental –The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) and Mindanao State University (MSU) at Naawan officially unveiled the P6.2 million nanoCORE Lab: Computational Nanotechnology Technology Laboratory, the first nanotechnology lab in Northern Mindanao, to provide a platform for groundbreaking research in nanotechnology. DOST-PCIEERD Executive Director Dr. Enrico C. Paringit commended MSU-Naawan for spearheading the establishment of nanoCORE lab and expressed his excitement about the potential impact of the facility. "MSU-Naawan has set a commendable example in advancing scientific exploration. We are confident that this facility is poised to advancing scientific research and fostering innovation in the field of computational nanotechnology," he said. The nanoCORE Lab will focus on the development of new nanomaterials, computational modeling of nanoscale phenomena, and nanotechnology applications in fields such as medicine, energy, and electronics.

To further strengthen the startup ecosystem of the country, the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology (DOST-PCIEERD) invested P120 million, through the Regional Startup Enabler for Ecosystem Development (ReSEED) Program, to support DOST PCIEERD-funded Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) in leading the establishment and formalization of startup ecosystem consortium in each region. The program aims to reach partners and innovators in the regions in the Philippines to actively participate in the action to bolster and produce startups that are fundable by investors, as well as the government.
