PROJECT. 1 ADVICE
Ad-hoc Vehicle Infrastructure Cooperative Environment
Executive Summary
AdVICE is a transportation vehicle network service (TNVS) system that consists of 1) a collection of ride-hailing algorithms 2) data harvesting of e-vehicles, and 3) ride-hailing application. AdVICE aims to make e-trikes more efficient for use as a transportation option in small communities.
The Problem
E-trikes are increasingly becoming ubiquitous in the country. Some local governments have successfully replaced the traditional tricycles with their electric counterparts. Challenges in their adoption include a higher upfront cost, lower mileage per charge, slow and frequent charging, and battery disposal. With these challenges, a need to maximize the mileage of these vehicles while still making them reliably available to passengers arises.
The Solution
AdVICE acts as an automated middleman to increase the efficiency of e-trikes. The first component,
called AdVICEOR, is a collection of algorithms pertaining to charging station placement, route
calculation, and ride matching designed to increase the mileage of e-trikes and forms a basis for a
transport network vehicle service (TNVS). The second component is a hardware module designed to
extract and compute various data, such as charge and speed, from the e-trike. It can also be connected wirelessly to a smartphone. The third and last component, called Hatid, is a TNVS smartphone app, available on both Android and iOS, that passengers can use to book e-trikes within a community. It is also used by drivers to accept bookings and view e-trike data.
Competitive Advantage
● Charging station placement algorithm is designed to minimize number of charging stations while
maximizing coverage within an area
● Matches between driver and rider are designed to maximize charge of e-trike
● Similar to better shared route percentage as opposed to typical routes from ride sharing apps
● Existing e-trikes can be retrofitted with a module that checks for battery charge and speed. The
app can connect to the e-trike to get the data.
● The driver app is easy to use and is intended to maximize productivity of drivers
Target Market
Commercial Areas, Business Centers, Regional Government Centers, Universities, Closed Residential Communities
